Bagnath Temple is located at 29.8370° N, 79.7725° E.  The temple is situated in Bageshwar City in Bageshwar District in the Indian state of Uttarakhand. It is situated at the confluence of Saryu and Gomati rivers. It has an Elevation of 1004 m above mean sea level.
 
Some sources states that the Baghnath Temple existed since 7th century and the present Nagara style building was built in 1450 by Chand ruler, Laxmi Chand. The temple also finds mention in the Skanda Purana. Also, the various stone figurines seen in the temple dates back to the 7th century AD to 16th century AD.

Bagnath Temple has an interesting  history behind as according to the Hindu legend, Rishi Markandeya worshipped Lord Shiva here later on Lord Shiva blessed Rishi Markandeya by visiting here in the from of a tiger and mother Parvati as Cow{{ keyword }} . Rishi Markandeya Celebrated himself as a devotee of Lord Shiva and Vishnu as per various mention in the number of stories from the puranas(Some report claimed that this temple built in 7 century . It wants solution from him therefore immediately Lord Shiva and Mother Paravathi revealed on earth in the from of Tiger and Cow ,with loud roars of Tiger and Cow screams make the Rishi  Vashsisht Run from there and save the Cow from Tiger clutches. Therefore at the place of two river Sarayu and her sister gomatis junction, The Bagnath Temple Emerged. 

  {{ keyword }} The Uttarayani fair is held in the month of January every year on the occasion of Makar Sankranti. The religious ritual of the fair consists in bathing before daybreak at the confluence.  After Bathing, an offering of water to Lord Shiva inside the Temple is essential. Those who are more religiously disposed, continue this practice for three days in succession, which is known as "Trimaghi".

  • The journey of Bagnath Temple can be done throughout the year, but the best to visit here is between the months of October to May.
  • Travelling here in these months is the best and enjoyable. During the winter season , the weather of here is cold.
  • Due to snowfall on the surrounding hills in the winter season, the temperature of here goes down very much.
  • Due to heavy rains in the rainy season it is bit difficult to travel of here because of heavy rains threatening landslides.
