The foundation stone of Nainital Raj Bhawan was laid on 27th April 1897 and the construction took two years to complete. It is built on European pattern and based on Gothic Architecture. The designers of Raj Bhawan (Nainital) were Architect Stevens and the Executive Engineer FOW Ortel.

Architect of Governor House or Raj Bhawan was F.W.Stevens who came from Bombay with Engineer F.O.Oertel and H.S.Wildeblood. Raj Bhawan was constructed between the period of 1897 to 1900.
